Titagarh police have arrested three individuals in connection with the explosion that occurred at 7 a.m. yesterday at Swami Vivekananda Apartment, located in the Basbagan area of Ward 4, Titagarh Municipality. Among those arrested is Mohammad Riajuddin alias Arman Mandal, a councillor from the Trinamool Congress party. The blast took place in a toilet on the terrace of the multi-storey building, where explosives had been stored.
The building promoter has alleged that the councillor had illegally occupied the flat where the explosion happened. Following this, police launched an investigation into the incident, leading to the arrest of Arman Mandal, Arshad Khan, and Mohammad Sarukh. The arrested individuals were produced before the Barrackpore court today.
Police have registered cases against the accused under sections 284/3(5) BNS and 9B(1)(B) of the Explosives Act. The court approved a five-day police custody request for further interrogation and investigation into the source and motive of the explosives. The investigation remains ongoing.
